Ambulance LTDWent to see Ambulance LTD at the Black Cat last night. Fantastic show! I enjoyed it enormously. This is my favorite band so far from the Blowoff set lists--though I didn't hear them there. I've just figured out that they tend to play more rock oriented stuff at Blowoff, and Bob Mould's new stuff, earlier in the evening. For the last few weeks I've been listening constantly to Ambulance's album LP, which has a nice variety of styles and a bunch of familiar influences that can be heard along with the band's own unique sound. Click the Ambulance LTD link above to visit their site where you can listen to tracks from the album and see a live video for Heavy Lifting. VHS or Beta was one of the opening acts, and they were also great. They've been on the Blowoff set lists too, but I kind of overlooked them. I didn't get past the Cure-nes in listening to short samples and hadn't visited their site or heard enough to appreciate them. Wish there were better ways to get to know new music. Wonderful live act, and for dance type energy, though I wouldn't soak myself in their music everywhere like I have with Ambulance LTD. Saw Bob at the show talking to the VHS or Beta lead singer, and heard that he was out at the same place I was at latter, but never got a chance to say hi. I'm so glad that Bob and Rich organize Blowoff--without them I would never have known about several great bands that I've enjoyed so much. |
